HOMEGROWN IN PHOENIX, FOR PHOENIX

Stevens-Leinweber is synonymous with Arizona’s highest quality commercial construction

Our Story

THE JOURNEY BEGINS

SLC was founded in Phoenix in 1981 by Mike Stevens and Mark Leinweber – industry experts who committed to the tenant improvement field at a time when the specialty was non-existent in the local market. SLC honed those skills throughout the 1980s, growing in tandem with the Valley and quickly becoming a leader in the tenant improvement sector. When a large, 80,000-square-foot job for a major local hospital came along in 1989, the company was ready for it. The opportunity proved SLC could deploy its superior TI services on a more significant scale, and opened the door to a new echelon of projects.

Growing a Legacy

SLC’s market presence grew significantly throughout the 1990s and into the 2000s with projects completed in buildings across the Valley’s hottest submarkets – from Central Phoenix to Midtown to the Camelback Corridor. It also spanned an impressive range of tenant uses including law firms, financial institutions and similar users who sharpened SLC’s abilities and its reputation as a go-to company for high-end spaces. Strong relationships, old-fashioned hard work and a commitment to the highest quality built a loyal client base. By 2010, no other general contractor in town had amassed the number of tenant improvement and multi-tenant building improvements than SLC.

A New Era

As they moved into the new decade, Mark and Mike began considering the succession of SLC, hoping to find a leader with their same level of integrity, skill and work ethic to guide their business into the future. They found that in Jamie Godwin, and in 2014 brought him into the SLC family, confident in his ability to lead with passion and innovation. By 2016, ownership of SLC had fully transitioned from Mark and Mike to Jamie. With an eye toward all that his company could become, Jamie added Erik Powell to the team in 2017, tasking him with the launch of a ground-up construction division that would add diversity to SLC without losing sight of the company’s existing expertise, niche market experience and relationships. That decision would prove its worth, helping SLC to expand its ground-up volume by tenfold since the division’s launch and propelling the firm into a new stratum as a full-circle general contractor.

Our Priorities in Action

Over four decades, SLC has evolved from a start-up full of possibilities into one of Phoenix’s most active general contractors. Its portfolio includes more than 9,500 completed tenant improvement projects. Its ground-up presence has also prospered, now totaling more than 17 million square feet of Class A office and industrial space completed or in the pipeline. Respected by architects, designers, owners and developers, SLC is selected time and again to complete some of the Valley’s most prominent projects – and with our broad in-house expertise, we can deliver excellence to those stakeholders from project conception to TI completion. As we move into the future, our focus is clear… to serve metro Phoenix as we live out our priorities: a family culture for employees, white glove treatment for clients, true partnerships for subcontractors and industry partners, and steadfast support for our community.
